We did both an abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound today. It was the same lady who did our level 2 ultrasound with Jenna and also the ultrasound during our amnio.
By my last period, I would be six weeks and one day. If I go by when I think I might have ovulated, I'm at 5 weeks, 4 days or 5 weeks, 3 days. We saw a gestational sac and the yolk sac, but no fetal pole. The ultrasound tech said it was just too early to get a crown to rump length. Is that the fetal pole?
My specialist, who is different than who we saw the last time but in the same office, came into introduce himself to me. I really, really liked him. He took a look at the screen (we were in the middle of the transvaginal ultrasound) and said, "Wow, you are still really early."
When the ultrasound was over, the tech stuck her head in his office and told him what we saw, and he said, "Have her come in in a week to scan for viability."
Him saying that makes me nervous. Why couldn't he have said come back in a week to do another scan? Why did he have to say viability? I asked the tech if that meant he thought something wrong, and she said no, just that it was too early to tell anything.
I looked up an ultrasound pic of 5 weeks, 4 days, and it looks exactly like what we saw. But, I'm still so nervous. I hate this. I'm still having symptoms, and she said my cervix was long and closed, which was good.
So, please share some stories with me and tell me what you saw.

We tried for a long time to get pregnant with A and it was on our second round of clomid that we finally conceived. Because we were trying with assistance, we had a scan done as soon as I got a BFP and it was right around 5 weeks. We saw a sac and some sort of blip, but that was it. I went back at 6w and a few days and had a good little fetal pole--and a heart beat!
Don't fret, I'm sure everything is great!
Dont be worried!! When we had our ultrasound at 5 weeks there wasnt much there either and they had be come back at 7 weeks and there was a little dot on the screen with a heartbeat.
Try not to worry!
I've never had an ultrasound before 8 weeks so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I've heard of lots of people not being able to see the hb at 5 weeks. You even said yesterday that you probably wouldn't see one, remember? :) I'm just trying to talk to your logical side...I would be worried, too, because that's what mothers do! :) I don't like the world "viability" either, but I am sure that he only meant that it was early and he wanted to see how things progress. Seriously, everything sounds good to me so far. Yay for the little tiny baby in there!
I had one at 5 weeks (and some odd days) and we only saw sacs. Nothing else. Went back on exactly one week later and saw the heartbeats!
I hate it when doctors are so casual about throwing around words like "viability". It causes us to panic, and I just don't think they get it. I think you are FINE! It's still very early, keep positive.
Hey. I had some very early ultrasounds and all we saw were the sacs. Don't worry it is perfectly normal AND at least you get to come back for another scan. I went every two weeks in the beginning until we got a good solid heartbeat. I am sure everything is great! If you would feel better, let me know, and I will scan my early ones for you :)
When I first got pregnant, my doctor told me that she did not even want to see me until I was 8 weeks because before then there is nothing much to see. So don't worry. Everything is fine.
We had an ultrasound at 3 weeks (1 week after conception) and saw absolutely nothing. The next u/s was when I was 7 weeks. So that's a bit different.
*HUG*
Is it too early to throw the name "Niff" into the pool of potential baby names?? ;o)
How are you holding up?
